In addition, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) need to be explored for obvious reasons and to prevent later suffering from addictions and other mental health issues. Children don’t know that what they might have endured was “traumatic”. They just assume it’s normal. Family doctors and pediatricians have a duty to ask their young patients about ACEs and household domestic and substance abuse instead of dismissing these and addictions as “adult problems”.
